Herrmann passes 17 yards to tight end Dave Young for the go-ahead
touchdown, giving Purdue its third straight bowl victory.
Herrmann, who wins the most valuable player award for a second
straight year in a bowl game, completes 21 of 39 passes for
303 yards and three touchdowns in a game played in the Astrodome.
Purdue had taken a 21-0 lead in the third quarter, before
Tennessee rallies for three straight scores and a pair of
two-point conversions.
The Boilermakers finish the season with a 10-2 record for
coach Jim Young.

For a third consecutive bowl game victory, quarterback Mark
Herrmann is named most valuable player after leading Purdue
with four touchdown passes and 289 yards on 22 of 28 passing.
Herrmann's TD passes are eight and 27 yards to Bart Burrell,
43 yards to Steve Bryant, and five yards to Dave Young. Burrell
finishes with eight receptions for 113 yards.
Purdue held a 28-12 lead in the third quarter before Missouri
rallies with a field goal, safety, touchdown and two-point
conversion.
The Boilermakers finish the season with a 9-3 record for
coach Jim Young.

23 yards to Steve Griffin, 12 yards to Marty Scott, and 17
yards to Jeff Price.
Purdue manages just 84 yards rushing and commits four turnovers.

Underdog Purdue drives 80 yards in 54 seconds to upset fourth-ranked
Kansas State on a 24-yard scoring pass from Drew Brees to
Isaac Jones with 30 seconds to play.
Brees, a sophomore, completes 25 of 53 passes for 230 yards
and three touchdowns, including five yards to Chris Daniels
and 30 yards to Jones, both in the second quarter. Jones finishes
with 11 receptions for 98 yards. Travis Dorsch kicks field
goals of 25, 26 and 37 yards.
On defense, Billy Gustin intercepts two passes, tying the
Alamo Bowl record, and David Nugent returns a fumble for a
touchdown.
In Joe Tiller's second year as coach, Purdue finishes its
season with a 9-4 record.

Georgia rallies from a 25-0 deficit to win in overtime.
The Bulldogs close within 25-10 at halftime and 25-18 after
three quarters and then tie the game with 1:19 remaining on
an eight-yard pass that is deflected by two Purdue defenders.
In overtime, Travis Dorsch misses a 43-yard field goal attempt
for the Boilermakers and Hap Hines connects on a 21-yarder
to give Georgia the victory.
Drew Brees throws 60 passes, completing 36, for 378 yards
and touchdowns of three and 11 yards to Chris Daniels, 21
yards to Vinny Sutherland and 32 yards to Chris James.
Purdue finishes the season with a 7-5 record for coach Joe
Tiller.

in the fourth quarter as the Big Ten champion Boilermakers
fall to fourth-ranked Washington.
After Washington scores two touchdowns to open the fourth
quarter, Purdue closes within 34-24 on Sedrick Brown's 42
yard run with 6:37 to play. But after Purdue gets the ball
back, Travis Dorsch misses a 42-yard field goal attempt and
Washington runs out the clock.
In his final college game, Drew Brees completes 23 of 39
passes for 275 yards and touchdowns of five and 27 yards to
Vinny Sutherland, who also finishes his college career.
Purdue finishes the season with an 8-4 record for coach Joe
Tiller.

Quarterback Kyle Orton sets a NCAA bowl game record with
74 pass attempts, but Purdue's late rally falls short against
13th-ranked Washington State.
The Boilermakers trail, 33-20, in the fourth quarter, but
pull within 33-27 on a 51-yard pass from Orton to Taylor Stubblefield
with 1:53 to play. Purdue then recovers the ensuing onside
kick but the Boilermakers final drive ends at the Washington
State 22.
Orton completes 38 of 74 passes for 419 yards and two touchdowns,
both to Stubblefield. John Standeford totals 12 receptions
for 103 yards and Tim Stratton finishes his college career
with 12 receptions for 86 yards. Stubblefield has nine for
196.
Purdue finishes its season with a 6-6 record for coach Joe
Tiller.

Purdue rallies from a 17-0, first-quarter deficit and scores
34 straight points en route to its first bowl victory since
the 1998 Alamo Bowl and preventing the first losing season
in Joe Tiller's six seasons as head coach. The final score
is the same as the one Purdue lost to Washington by in the
2001 Rose Bowl.
The Boilermakers (7-6) had -4 total yards after one period
but finished the game with 400 to Washington's 316. Kyle Orton
completes 25 of 37 passes for 283 yards, two touchdowns and
no interceptions. Joey Harris rushes 23 times for 93 yards
and John Standeford pulls in 10 passes for 105 yards. The
defensive play of the game is Gilbert Gardner's 19-yard return
of a fumble for a touchdown and a 31-17 Purdue lead in the
third quarter.
